The theme for Kernelcon 2026 is OFF GRID. To bring that to life, we deployed a solar array of 12 × 315W panels feeding an inverter and battery system in the Hardware Hacking Village.
This setup powers (most) everything in HHV, including attendee laptops, our on-site LLM/AI server, and supporting infrastructure, all running entirely off-grid.
We also took it a step further by charging a bank of 18V power tool batteries via solar, then using them to run an Intel NUC mini PC, along with an inverter to drive a monitor.
